Great Tanning Tips by or in the Pool

If you have a pool or are planning on getting one soon, you’re probably dreaming of that perfect tan. After all, for many people, having a place to lay out and get some sun is one of the major advantages of owning a pool. However, there’s a “science” to getting the perfect tan. Luckily for you, though, it can be broken down into a few simple tips.

Tip #1: Wear Some Sunscreen

When you want that perfect tan, it’s tempting to just lie out in the sun with nothing between you and its rays. However, that’s not good for your skin. Plus, it’s a surefire way to get a major sunburn. That’s far from attractive. In fact, it's downright painful.

Thus, as counterintuitive as it may seem, use sunscreen and reapply it frequently throughout your day in the sun. This will keep you from burning, while still allowing some of the sun’s rays to penetrate your body and give you that golden glow. Just make sure to always wait at least twenty minutes after application before hitting the water. Otherwise, that sunscreen won’t do you any good.

Tip #2: Choose A Tanning Ledge

If you haven’t gotten your pool installed yet, you’re in luck! You still have time to choose a pool with a great feature:a tanning ledge. These ledges are absolutely perfect for sun worshippers! If you already have your pool, though, don’t worry. You can still find a great spot—one where the sun hits just right—and turn it into your makeshift tanning area.

Tip #3: Keep Your Pool Clean

As a final tip, work hard to keep your pool as clean as possible, especially if you plan to tan while in the water. The cleaner your water is, the easier it is for the sun’s rays to penetrate it and your body. This can lead to a deeper, faster tan.

While tanning may not be the healthiest thing for your skin, there is definitely a way to enjoy tanning while mitigating the damage. By following these tips, you can indulge your love for poolside or in-the-pool tanning while also protecting yourself.
