Is it Time for a New Heat Pump?
Heat pumps are a great addition to any pool. They allow a pool to stay warm and toasty, even when the temperatures outside aren’t ideal. This enables you to enjoy your pool for more months out of the year and to basically get more bang for your buck! With that said, though, even the best pool heat pumps can develop problems from time to time. Thus, if you notice something amiss with your pump, have it looked at professionally. The sooner you take care of problems, the more likely it is that your pump can be repaired instead of outright replaced.
Reduced Heating Capacity
One of the first major warning signs of a problem is that your heat pump starts to lose its heating ability. Often, this happens gradually. You may notice that your water seems slightly less warm than usual, only to have the problem grow worse a little at a time. This can be due to a wide range of issues, both serious and not serious, but is a surefire sign you need to have your unit looked at.
Low Pressure Errors
Depending on the type of heat pump you have, you may notice that your pump is displaying “LP.” If you see this warning, it is a low pressure error and typically means that your pump does not have adequate refrigerant, which is keeping it from being able to work properly. You can easily add in the refrigerant your pump needs to start working again. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, though, then it’s time to call on professionals.
No Errors
Guess what? Even if your pool’s heat pump is working perfectly, it’s still a good idea to have it professionally serviced on a regular basis. In fact, it’s recommended that you do so about once a year. Regular servicing, instead of just calling a technician when there's a problem, can help to prevent major issues and can greatly prolong the life of your heat pump, thereby protecting your investment.
Remember, your heat pump, just like every other part of your pool, needs to be taken care of if you want it to work well for you. Thus, stay on top of it through regular servicing and by addressing serious issues immediately.
