Pool Lighting

Pool lighting has come a long way since the first use of a large incandescent flood lamp. As pool lighting technology has evolved, the price has increased too, and it has you questioning all sorts of things about pool lighting.

In considering your budget for a new inground pool, you’re thinking of cutting costs. Some may feel that lighting is a good place to trim. Illuminating your pool had never been in question. You'd narrowed your choices down to either fiber optic or LED land priced both options out. With the upfront cost of pool installation, making a budget cut or two would be great. Pool lighting really isn't the place to start. Rarely, that pool owners don't benefit significantly from the ambiance, and safety pool lighting provides. Although the most popular option in recent years, LED, will run you about $500-$900 upfront, and fiber optic around $900-$1500, installing them during initial construction will save you so much expense and construction hassle later.

Decision made that lighting is a must in your pool budget; whether to use LED or fiber optic is the next big sticking point, and it really comes down to is the purpose of lighting. Fiber optic, which works from a dry box located on the top of the pool, emits lights to the end of a cable, which runs for the dry box to a special fitting installed in the pool wall. While this seems like a great option, if you're looking for brightness, this falls short. It is beautiful in creating a soft, unobtrusive glow and is an excellent option in creating a serene ambiance. So too is the LED light, but it has the added benefit of being brighter. If you're needing a more brilliant light for safety, LED is the reliable option.

While the costs don't vary a ton, fiber optic does run higher, but fiber-optic does tend to be more accessible when it comes to changing the bulk. Given that the dry box is not submerged in the pool and is located on the patio, it's incredibly accessible. A bulb change will take less than 5 minutes.

Pool lighting can be compared to a cherry on top of a sundae! Whichever option you choose, it's an option that needs to be included!
