Why You Should Consider Opening Your Pool Early
If you own a swimming pool or will soon own one, you’re faced with an all-important decision: when to open your pool for the season. Depending on where you live, you could potentially open up your pool and start swimming as soon as March. And, while that might seem super early, some swimming enthusiasts open their pools even sooner. Really, as long as the weather is decently warm and will stay decently warm, it’s not too early to open things up. In fact, early pool openings can have some surprising benefits you might not have thought of.
Easier, More Effective Cleaning
When you first open up your pool for the season, you should balance your pool chemicals and give the whole thing a good cleaning. While the process may feel cumbersome, getting it done early has its advantages. For one thing, you won't have to do your cleaning in scorching heat and risk a sunburn. For another, you’ll have a much lower risk of algae growth. Instead, you can get your water parameters under control, reduce the risk of unwanted growth for the whole season, and start swimming in cool, clean water a whole lot sooner.
Beat the Heat
Imagine that first really hot day of summer. Chances are you’ll find yourself wishing you could jump into your pool and cool off. And, luckily, if you’re gotten it ready ahead of time, you can. Plus, opening your pool takes work, and that work is much better done in the coolness of early spring than in the sometimes sweltering days of early summer. Plus, as an added bonus, if you start swimming and splashing earlier, your body will get adjusted to the cooler water temps more quickly, allowing you to enjoy a longer swimming season and get more use out of your pool.
Bust Boredom
For many people, the winter is long and full of boredom. Some people even battle seasonal depression during the colder months. Thankfully, preparing your pool early gives you something to do when you’re feeling down or depressed. Additionally, the sooner you get your pool open, the sooner you can start swimming, or at least sitting by the pool and relaxing. If you’re feeling those winter blues, then an early opening will likely do you a world of good.
Choosing when to open your pool is a personal decision. It’s all about what you want and how comfortable you are with swimming in slightly cooler temps. With that said, though, there are certainly some upsides to early openings. Thus, make sure you consider those as you plan your opening date.
