The Truth About Fiberglass Pool Width

Fiberglass pools have really surged in popularity in recent years, due in large part to their affordability, strength, and versatility. However, despite all the pros of a fiberglass pool, some people still shy away from them. One of the main reasons they give for doing so is that they have heard that all fiberglass pools are very skinny. And, while it is true that most, but not all, fiberglass pools are on the thinner side, that’s really not as big of a problem as you might think.

There are Exceptions to the Rule!

You may have heard that most fiberglass pools are not wider than 16 feet or so. While this may be true in most cases, “most” is the key word here. If you truly have your heart set on a wider pool size and still want a fiberglass pool, you can shop around for options outside the norm or even have your pool custom-designed. You may run into some tricky pieces of the puzzle due to transport laws, but if you’re willing to pay a little more and have a great pool company, nothing is impossible.

There are Just So Many Pros

Also keep in mind that fiberglass pools offer many positives you just can’t get with any other type of pool. As mentioned, they tend to be one of the more affordable options. Plus, they’re easier to maintain than many other pool types and feature a smooth, even bottom that increases comfort. Plus, you can get them in just about any shape or style you can imagine. With so many benefits, chances are that you won’t even really notice or care if the width isn’t exactly what you had planned.

You’ll Save Space

Finally, keep in mind that a wide, super-large pool isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be. For one thing, the bigger and wider your pool, the more maintenance and work you’ll have to put in. For another, wider pools are more expensive and take up a ton of space. If you want to enjoy your backyard in other ways and in other seasons, opting for a pool that’s less wide and more reasonable size-wise can actually be a wise move.

As you can see, width doesn’t really matter all that much when it comes to pools. And, besides, you can always break away from the norm and still get the fiberglass pool you want. Either way, a fiberglass pool is worth it, no matter how wide it is (or isn’t)!
