A Guide to Plants Around Your Pool

One of the easiest ways to liven up your pool area is to add in a few (or a lot of!) plants. You can go for bushes, flowers, trees, and so much more. But, before you add in a single plant, make sure to keep these helpful tips in mind.

Consider More Than Just Looks

First things first, never choose your plants based on looks alone. Yes, you want plants you find attractive, but other factors are much more important. For example, you’ll want to avoid plants that will drop a lot of leaves or other debris into your pool water. Cleaning up after them will get old really fast!

Also, depending on how much time you have, you may want to avoid plants that require a lot of general maintenance and care. No matter your feelings on maintenance, though, you’ll definitely want to avoid plants that attract annoying insects to your pool. Thinking practically is truly imperative when choosing plants for around the pool.

Try A Test Run

Before you commit to planting something on your property, why not try a less permanent option? Potted plants can look just as beautiful as their in-the-ground counterparts and give you time to decide if you really like a particular plant. Plus, not only do you get to decorate with the plants themselves, but you can choose colorful, decorative pots as well. In fact, you may fall so in love with the look of potted plants around the pool that you stick with them, which is perfectly okay.

Consider Hiring a Pro

If you do intend to put your plants in the ground, consider hiring a professional to do it for you. Gardening is hard work, and even if you’re up for the challenge, a pro is likely to do a better job. What’s more is they can provide you with insight into caring for your plants and may even offer regular maintenance services to take the workload off you.

Plants are a great way make your pool look its best. But, don’t jump in without some proper planning and thought first.
