Myth #1: You Shouldn’t Be Able to Smell the Chlorine
Many pool owners believe that a strong smell of chlorine means they’ve over-chlorinated the pool. However, that’s not really true. In fact, smelling chlorine may mean that the pool actually needs more chlorine. That odor you smell is chlorine that has escaped into the air, which could leave your water wanting for more.
Myth #2: Clear Water Means You’re in the Clear
You might think that, if your water looks clean and clear, it is, but that’s not always the case. Even the most inviting looking water can be dealing with bacteria, chemical imbalances, and more. The only way to know a water’s condition for sure is to properly test it, which you should do regularly. In fact, relying on looks alone can set your pool up for failure.
Myth #3: It’s Normal for Your Eyes to Burn
You may have heard that it’s totally fine for your eyes to burn after you’ve taken a dip. However, it’s definitely not! Red, burning eyes signify that your pH is out of whack, which is something you’ll want to fix right away. After all, swimming should be something that you enjoy, not something that causes you discomfort.
As you can see, there are all kinds of lies floating around about swimming pools. Believe it or not, these are just a few of many. Because there is so much misinformation about pools out there, it’s best to take your information only from reputable sources, such as pool professionals. After all, there really shouldn’t be any guesswork when it comes to properly maintaining your pool, at least not if you want it to last for many years to come.
