Tips for Fiberglass Pool Owners

Are you the proud owner of a fiberglass pool? Or, maybe you’re considering buying one of these pools. Either way, you’ll be glad to know that fiberglass pools are a wonderful, low maintenance option.

With that said, however, these pools do require some care. If you want to keep your pool (or soon-to-be pool) in tip-top shape, simply follow these easy tips.

Tip #1: Trim Those Trees

First things first, you can consider trees an “enemy” as far as your fiberglass pool is concerned. Trees are notorious for dropping their leaves into pools and creating a big mess. Plus, where there are trees, there are bugs, which can also drop into the pool.

For best results, build your pool in an area that’s not surrounded by trees. If that can’t be helped or if it’s too late, consider cutting down trees that pose a problem or at least keeping them trimmed down during the summer months. This will make a big difference in the cleanliness and aesthetic beauty of your pool.

Tip #2: Keep Your Metal Levels in Check

All water, including the water in your pool, contains metals. That’s not a problem. But, if you have too much of certain metals in the water, this can lead to stains appearing on your fiberglass pool.

Thus, regularly check metal levels and work to get them under control if you notice an overabundance of certain types of metals. Excess levels of magnesium, cooper, and iron are all particularly risky when it comes to pool staining.

Tip #3: Use Your Filter Daily

Finally, don’t underestimate the importance of your pool filter. Invest in a good one and then run it every single day, ideally for at least six hours a day. People often try to save money by running the filter less frequently. But, it’s so necessary for keeping your pool clean that you can’t chance it. After all, the cost of fixing the problems caused by a dirty, improperly balanced swimming pool is often a lot more than the cost of running your filter as you should.

Fiberglass pools are great in that they require less maintenance than other types of pools. However, you still need to do your part to keep them in pristine condition. Following these tips is a great place to start!
