Pool Contractor v. Sub-Contractors

When it comes to the swimming pool you install, it will either be built by your swimming pool company, or it will be built by subcontractors. Either of these methods can ultimately leave you with an excellent, high-quality pool. But, with that said, you will find that there are some definite advantages to working with a company that builds its pools in-house.

The Pool Company Decides the Schedule

First things first, when your pool supplier is also your pool builder, you’re not contending with two schedules. When pool companies work with subcontractors, they have to wait until the subcontractors have availability. And, if you’re getting your pool installed in the summer months or even spring, be prepared to wait! After all, most subcontractors work with a wide range of companies and stay very busy during peak times.

Of course, when the company does its own building and installation work, they simply have to fit you into their schedule, no one else’s. They also have the freedom to change or rearrange their schedules as needed and can easily fit customers in early when another customer’s plans or needs change, making scheduling more convenient all around.

You’ll Often Enjoy Higher-Quality Work

Another major benefit of working with a company that makes its pools in-house is that you’ll often enjoy work of a higher quality. After all, when a pool company contracts its work elsewhere, it can always fall back on and blame the subcontractor if something goes wrong. When a company does its own work, on the other hand, it knows that it’s responsible for how each pool turns out and how the customer feels about it. Thus, it’s likely to do better, higher-quality work each and every time since its reputation is always on the line. Of course, none of this is to say that all companies that use subcontractors are necessarily bad. In fact, there are some great companies with amazing relationships with their subcontractors, and the two combined can often lead to excellent, high-quality work.

So, while there are some surefire benefits to working with a company that also serves as your pool builder, the real key is to choose a great company all around, and, from there, to let the work and service speak for themselves.
