Trees and Pools

Do you have a yard that’s full of trees? Or, maybe you have a yard with just one “special” tree that you don’t want to get rid of. Whatever the case may be, trees can sometimes bring up some interesting questions and concerns when it comes time to install a pool. Your best choice is always to talk through these issues with your pool contractor. However, you can also learn from the advice and information presented below.

To Remove or Not to Remove

Whether you have one tree or ten in your yard, your first question is probably whether or not you need to have the trees removed. Unfortunately, there’s not really one simple answer to that question. It all depends on your desires and preferences. If you want a pool that’s as low maintenance as possible, for example, then you probably will want to remove the trees in your yard, or at least the ones surrounding the pool. Otherwise, you’ll be cleaning and vacuuming your pool a lot!

On the other hand, you may want a pool that’s somewhat in the shade and that doesn’t get too warm during the hot summer months. In this case, trees could actually work in your favor if they’re placed in a desirable way. Ultimately, the choice of whether to keep or remove trees is up to you. But, you should talk over your plans with your pool contractor to ensure you’re both on the same page and that your decision is a wise one.

Protecting Trees You Want to Keep

When you decide to protect one or more trees during pool installation, know that you have a big job ahead of you and that there are never any guarantees about how a tree will fare. With that said, though, you can still do everything in your power to protect and preserve your tree. Surround it with a temporary fence to protect the trunk and the roots, and make sure everyone knows that the tree is not to be touched or harmed.

As you can see, trees can factor heavily into any pool installation job. But, if you know this ahead of time and prepare for it, then you shouldn’t run into any ugly surprises or expenses along the way, allowing your pool project to go off without a hitch.
