The Benefits of Fiberglass

We talk a lot about the benefits and features of a fiberglass pool throughout our SFP website and blog. Some questions are asked frequently regardless of available information and always of great value to revisit.

The first question we often get is, why fiberglass?

1. Low maintenance: The get coat surface of the fiberglass pool shell is nonporous. This inhibits algae growth and reduces the excessive need to sanitize and utilized chemicals.

2. Quick Installation: Average installation time is 3-6 weeks

3. Longevity: No matter the conditions fiberglass is flexible and can bend, shrink, swell but is strong enough to deal with the elements

Once the benefits have been outlined, the next inevitable question is how much a fiberglass pool cost? While fiberglass will run you $4k-9k more than other options, the low maintenance quality will end up saving you money in upkeep, chemicals, and repairs.

There are also a lot of questions about customization and size options. Fiberglass has really evolved in recent and years, and although they are limited in width, you’re still able to add the desired features like a tanning shelf, and they come in various shapes and sizes. The average pool is 14' wide and about 30' long while the smallest pools are typically around 8x16.

With each answer, our fiberglass pools become the desired option, so the next question is inevitably around how long the installation and construction process will take? This is a bit of a moving target based on weather, but on average, it will take 3 to 6 weeks, which is far better than its vinyl and concrete cousins.
