It's All in the Contract
You’ve decided that you're installing a fiberglass pool, but before your excitement gets the better of you, there are some critical things to review before you sign your construction contract.
There are three types of warranties when it comes to inground pool installation. There is the warranty on the pool itself, and then pool equipment from the pool manufacturer and the final one is from your pool builder addressing their workmanship. Make sure you have all three, entirely written out with any disclaimers. You’ll also want to have the pool contractor's building, license, insurance info, and pool contractors’ disclaimers. Also, discuss and know who is responsible for getting permits for the pool itself but also electrical and any other added features that require permits such as a fence.
There are also some details that you will want to get written and verbal confirmation. While base and backfill need to be gravel, you’d be amazed that some contractors use sand or dirt. Gravel is the only natural material that will not have settling issues. You’ll also want to make sure the plumbing used is hard pipe and not flex. There is a lot to know and remember, so making a list is a significant step, so you can verify you’re addressing all the various topics.
A few additional topics to know before you add your John Handcock; make sure you know who is responsible for the pool’s coping and decking. Also, who is doing the electrical hook up and who is doing the fencing. Knowing all these details will help in preventing any foreseeable disasters. Last but not least, confirm any pricing, specs for the retaining walls. Once that is verified, you should be good to go!
