What Happens if You Hit Rock?

When you’re putting in a pool in the Springfield, IL area, it sometimes happens that, in the process of digging for the pool, your contractor might hit rock. This is a dreaded situation that might mean your yard and your soil aren’t compatible with a pool. Thankfully, though, you do have options if this situation happens to you.

Avoid the Problem

First things first, whenever possible, try and avoid this problem in the first place! Have a soils test performed in the area in which you plan to place the pool. This will determine if rock is present underneath the surface and will save you the hassle of attempting to put in a pool in an unsuitable area.

Choose a Different Area

If it’s too late for preliminary soil testing and you’ve already hit rock, don’t panic. Just because one area or part of your yard is unsuitable for a pool doesn’t mean that all areas will be.

Choose a different pool location, test the soil, and see if you’re able to proceed. Chances are that, by shifting your pool location slightly, you can still have a backyard pool of your own!

Blast the Rock

Another option you have when a contractor hits rock is to try and blast the rock out and install the pool afterwards. However, this isn’t always possible and it can be very expensive, so you should really only choose this option if you’re out of alternatives.

Give Up

As a last resort, you may want to give up on your pool installation, at least temporarily. For some people, the costs involved in a misstep like this can stop their pool plans in their tracks. That’s why, for best results and so you don’t have to give up at all, you should simply perform the necessary testing first. It will save you a world of trouble!

If you can follow these helpful tips, you’ll hopefully never deal with a “rock stop” in your pool installation process. And, if you do, at least you’ll know how to handle it!
