What Makes an Ideal Pool Property

So, you’re in the market for a new home complete with a great yard. But, ask yourself one question first. Do you have plans of adding a pool to this property? If the answer is yes, then know that there are certain features you’ll want to look for. After all, not every yard is well-suited to eventually becoming a pool property!

Flat, Level Ground

If you’re going to install a pool in the near future, then you really need to look for a yard that is as flat and level as possible. A yard with lots of sloping cannot easily accommodate a pool without the use of retaining walls and other expensive accommodations, which you’ll want to avoid if at all possible. Bear in mind, however, that sloping isn’t always easily visible, so the only way to know for sure if a yard is truly flat is to have it professionally assessed.

Plenty of Room

Finding a nice, level yard is only half the battle. You also need to find a yard that’s big enough to accommodate your dream pool, as well as anything else you’d like to have in your yard. For best results, have an idea of what size pool you’d like to have. Then, ensure you know where the exact property lines of a yard lie in order to avoid unwanted surprises. When you have this kind of information to work from, it’s easy to find a yard that can actually accommodate the pool you desire, as well as any other plans you have for the space.

Be Aware of Utility Lines

Finally, you need to know if utility lines lie on your property. If they do, you may not be able to dig or perform any construction in certain, affected areas. You can ask to look at a plat of the property or have the land surveyed to determine if any utility lines or other structures are on your property and, if so, how they would affect your pool plans.

As you can see, owning a great pool isn’t as simple as picking a house with a yard and then having one installed. First, you have to make sure the yard in question is up for the challenge. The good news is that if you plan carefully and know what to look for, you can ultimately choose a yard that’s pool-ready without much work from you!
