Your Pool and Your Pup

For many families, the dog is an essential factor when purchasing a pool from Springfield Fiberglass Pools, and not all pools hold up when it comes to your pooch!

If ensuring your dog can swim in your pool is a priority, a vinyl pool is not the option for you!  The liner will inevitably tear or get small punctures from your pets' claws.  This can lead to leaking issues, which will just be an unnecessary headache!  Fiberglass or a concrete pool will be the best options for you to consider as they are made tough and will hold up against any four-legged-friend.

Another consideration for your pool project and pup is making sure you have appropriate entry and exit points based on the size of your dog.  Like any of our children, easy access in and out of the pool is critical.  Steps are the obvious choice, but you may want to think about a tanning ledge too.  A sun-shelf provides a place where kids and pets can play together without being entirely immersed in the water. Indeed, a great option!

While there haven't been formalized studies around the effects of chlorine or saltwater filtering systems and your canine, many of our SFP pool owners with salt chlorine generators haven't reported problems. If you're not using a salt-cell and using typical chlorine chemicals, it may irate your dog's skin slightly, but given the length of time your pet is in and out of the pool, it shouldn't cause too much of an issue.  Either way, as you close your pool for the day, it’s a good idea to spray your hound down with cool water as a precautionary rinse!

Many of you probably have concerns when it comes to your filtering system.  Although dog hair and dander are harder on a filter system, they don't appear to cause any serious damage if adequately maintained.  One was to do this is by adding a skimmer sock to catch dog hair before it runs through your filtering system. You can also use your essential hand-held pool skimmer to remover hair on the surface of your pool.

Bottom line; do not fret when it comes to your pooch enjoyment of your fiberglass pool.  All indicators are positive that there aren't any adverse effects on your pool or your pup!
