3 Things You Should Never Allow At Your Pool
So, you’re putting in a swimming pool! Congratulations. You’re setting yourself up for years of summertime fun. However, pool ownership is also a responsibility. It’s your job to make your pool a safe, enjoyable place to be. And, to get started on the right foot, make sure you never allow these three things at your pool.
Unattended Children
First things first, unattended children are a major no. There are just too many things that can go wrong when you allow kids to swim alone. Even if they’re your own kids, even if they know how to swim, and even if you’ve given countless lectures on pool safety, just don’t do it. Anything could happen, from a child falling into the pool and becoming unconscious to rough play that ends up hurting someone. With so many dangerous possibilities, it’s best to never take chances with the safety of a child.
Glass of Any Type
Every public pool prohibits glass in the pool area, and for good reason. No matter how careful you are, something is bound to get broken, and bare feet and broken glass just don’t mix. People could get hurt, or glass could end up in your pool or filtration system. Even if you intend to be extra careful, it’s better just to skip glass bottles and other glass objects when you’re poolside.
Electrical Items
Many pool owners will install outlets near the pool. This can make it tempting to plug in a radio, charge your phone, or bring out other electrical items. But, in reality, nothing that plugs in should be close to the water. If it falls in, there’s a risk of electrical shock, as well as damage to the items. Just keep it safe, and don’t plug in anything except necessary pool equipment.
You want your pool to be a fun place to be. Even more importantly, though, you want it to be safe for everyone. In general, if you use good judgment and common sense, in addition to following these tips, you can keep your pool from turning dangerous or even deadly.
